Cash-rich Lille are desperate to secure a deal for No.1 strike target Jonathan David in the coming days - according to a report.

Le Petit Lillois state the Canada international remains top of their wanted list but Gent continue to play hardball over a potential £27m deal.

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is also on the Ligue 1 side's transfer radar and Record Sport understands they are readying a fresh £17m offer.

LIlle have already signed landed Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz but are desperate to add firepower with up to three forwards arriving before the new season.

Their transfer kitty has received a significant boost after they star turn Victor Osimhen headed to Napoli in an eye-popping £73m deal.

And that move comes only 12 months after Nicolas Pepe left northern France for a blockbuster £72m to Arsenal.

The latest development comes after Rangers boss Steven Gerrard insisted urged his talisman to stay "focused" amid the frenzied speculation surrounding his future.

The Ibrox boss was pleased with the 24-year-old's display against Aberdeen but still wants more from a player who scored 29 times last season.

He said: “I thought Alfredo did a good job. He dropped in, overloaded the midfield area for us and listened to instructions.

“But we want him fitter and sharper. He had a couple of chances that, with more game time, he might have got on the end of and killed the game off for us.

“But it’s important Alfredo stays focused on Rangers and plays well. The Rangers fans deserve that focus – whatever happens will happen."
