ANDY Halliday admits he asked his girlfriend if he could postpone his winter break holiday so he could celebrate Old Firm victory in Glasgow.

“I think it is more a mental rest that is going to be of benefit for the rest of the season, we have played a lot of games in a short space of time and more mentally than physically it was a good rest to have.

When you look at the title race going into the winter break it is looking good for us.” Halliday and the squad are coming to the end of their winter training camp in Tenerife and he feels the squad are simply topping up on an impressive fitness level which saw them enter the title race and compete in strongly in Europe.

The 27-year-old couldn’t find another flight in time though and partied on the plane instead after a feeling of “sheer ecstasy” at the final whistle.

“No more than the fans, they have gone through hell and back but they have followed their club all the way through so it was important to get that victory for them and you can see on the streets of Glasgow they certainly enjoyed it.

Halliday has been deployed as a left-back by Steven Gerrard in recent weeks after injury to Borna Barisic and has played 24 times during an intensive first half of the season.

Speaking to RangersTV in Tenerife he said: “I got straight on a plane after the Old Firm; it has been such a long season in a short space of time so it was good that the gaffer gave the boys a bit of time to recoup.
