Scott Arfield followed up his wonder goal against Hamilton on Saturday with another against Kilmarnock but it wasn’t enough to secure the three points as Rangers capitulated at Rugby Park.

The Canada captain has been enjoying a rich vein of form after reverting to a deeper midfield role following Rangers defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle and has now scored 8 goals in 42 games this season.

Arfield had been struggling earlier in the season with Steven Gerrard reporting that he had been going through off-field issues but was adamant that he would maintain his availability for the Ibrox club.

With Alfredo Morelos the focal point of the Gers attack, Gerrard will be happy that the likes of Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo are chipping in with the odd goal to ease the burden from the Colombian but will need to rethink his tactics against the likes of Kilmarnock to retain any faint hopes of usurping Celtic.

Does Gerrard need to change his shape against teams like Kilmarnock and Aberdeen?

Rangers fans took to Twitter to celebrate the strike – before the collapse – and took delight in another goal that hasn’t been walked into the back of the net, if only he had been able to fire in a couple more.

After another game in which Rangers dropped points from a leading position, Arfield’s wonder strike will ultimately mean nothing with Gerrard’s side stuttering in their title challenge once again whilst their rivals across the city continue to steamroller teams.
