Celtic have maintained their lead at the top of the Premiership with a 2-0 win over Motherwell.

Celtic looked for a third goal but weren't at their clinical best as Motherwell defended admirably throughout the 90 minutes.

An opening strike from Odsonne Edouard and a Richard Tait own goal meant the Hoops go into the international break ahead of rivals Rangers on goal difference, as the Ibrox sideĀ dispatched Livingston in the other Premiership game this afternoon.

Edouard broke the deadlock, his 13th goal of the season, as the ball broke to him in the box and he made no mistake as he side-footed the ball into the top corner.

The home side then doubled their lead after the break thanks to a Tait own goal.

Celtic really should have added to theirĀ lead in the first half but were quite wasteful as Edouard and Elyounoussi missed opportunities.

The away side didn't offer much going forward, however, and the champions were happy to see out the victory at Parkhead and maintain their lead at the top of the table.
