Brendan Rodgers dropped fit-again Scott Brown and warned the Celtic skipper that sentiment won’t influence his team selection.

The 33-year-old midfielder – whose contract expires in the summer – had been restored to the Hoops starting line-up for Celtic’s draw with Motherwell in midweek after recovering from a hamstring injury.

But he was back on the bench for the 5-1 mauling of Kilmarnock at Parkhead, as Rodgers moved Callum McGregor back into the captain’s position.

Celtic produced a ruthless display to see off Kilmarnock and displace them at the top of the Premiership table.

Afterwards, the Celtic gaffer hinted that his first pick midfield DOESN’T include Brown – and insisted Brown’s status at the club can’t guarantee him a game.

“We had competition today against a team who were above us and have shown incredible consistency.

I know what Scott and Oliver Ntcham can do – but I know what the others can do too.
