Celtic are well on their way to an eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title after Rangers dropped away from contention in early 2019.

The gap at the top of the table is now eight points with nine games to go, and Chris Sutton has used that as the fuel for his latest criticism of the ex-Liverpool skipper.

When asked by Robbie Savage to rate Steven Gerrard's first season as a manager, Sutton responded brutally.

"Oh wow, honestly?" Sutton pondered on BT Sport.

Sutton reiterated his comments on Twitter, stating: "I thought it was about winning trophies... I'll change my mind if Rangers win the league".

"Steven Gerrard said he came to Glasgow to win trophies and following their replay defeat that isn't going to happen unless Celtic collapse in the league," Sutton told the Daily Record.

Rangers face Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday as they look to bounce back from cup disappointment with three points in the league.
