Celtic fans' chief John Paul Taylor has moved to cool rumours the Hoops have turned down their allocation of tickets for this month's derby clash with Rangers at Ibrox.

He cited safety fears for the Celtic support after Rangers cut their number of tickets by over 6000.

Parkhead bosses responded by cutting the Gers support for September's opening derby at Celtic Park to the same number.

This morning rumours were rife that the club had decided to go ahead with their boycott and would be taking no supporters at all to the eagerly awaited match.

But responding on social media, Celtic SLO Taylor said: "Been no word on this at all any suggestion either way is purely speculation."

Peter Lawwell revealed at the Hoops' AGM last month that the club were considering rejecting their heavily slashed allocation of 800 briefs for the match on December 29.

Ibrox bosses angered their Glasgow rivals earlier this year when they announced they would be slashing the number of tickets given to the Hoops faithful.
