Arthur Numan has paid a touching tribute to his old Rangers team-mate Fernando Ricksen after the 43-year-old lost his battle against Motor Neurone Disease.

The former Ibrox right back died earlier this morning and Numan was clearly emotional as he spoke about his friend.

Numan played alongside Ricksen for Rangers and Holland and revealed he was in Scotland three weeks ago to visit him alongside Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and Michael Mols.

Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, Numan said: "I got a phone call this morning and when I saw the name appearing on my screen I knew it was bad news and then he told me Fernando passed away an hour ago.

You could see him lying in bed and it's quite sad when you knew how he was in his early days.

"It was the only way to talk to him because you walk into the room and you keep talking about the stories from the past, our time with Rangers, the national team, but the good thing was the moment you walk into the room you don't want to be sad.

"I try to treasure the good moments with him and the crazy moments and it's side that he passed away but I treasure those moments.
