'Gerrard probably gave him a talking to' - Hutton urges Rangers ace to grab new role

Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton believes that Jordan Jones could win back his place in the team in a different role to his customary left-sided position.

Kent’s there at the moment so that’s not an option but that’s (the right-wing role) probably the position that’s up for grabs.” Hutton’s opinion about the right-wing role being “up for grabs” is a fair one given that nobody at Rangers has truly convinced in that position this season.

“I’m pretty sure he’ll have learned from that, Gerrard probably gave him a talking to so hopefully he’s had his head down through his injury and when he’s back fit hopefully he can be the man.

However, Hutton feels that Jones could come back into the side as a right winger, given the performances of Ryan Kent on the left.

The Rangers boss told reporters yesterday that the 25-year-old is set to miss another couple of games due to a tightness in his quad (via @RangersFC) and Hutton chastised the winger over his “daft” tackle on Bauer in the defeat to Celtic in September.

A daft tackle against Celtic put him out for a long time.

Hutton’s view that the right winger position could be “up for grabs” for Jones is an interesting one and it’s one that has merit.
