Gordon Smith has attempted to clear up a comment that left listeners scratching their heads.

Rangers responded with a statement they may refuse to take up any increased allocation for future matches – a threat with which Smith agreed.

The former SFA chief executive made a bizarre claim when asked on radio for his opinion on Kilmarnock cutting Rangers’ allocation for the trip to face Kilmarnock on the final day of the season – Sunday, May 18.

He went on to tell PLZ Soccer the Rangers team may boycott playing matches at Rugby Park altogether, a claim that was ridiculed by fans.

“After the last game against one of the Old Firm, we realised this was something that we had to discuss.

But now Smith – who played for both Killie and Rangers – has insisted he didn’t mean to say that.

"Of course I wasn't saying that Rangers would refuse to play the fixture.
