Romania manager Mirel Radoi has called for the country's fans to stop comparing the Rangers kid to his legendary father.

"We didn't fail to beat Northern Ireland because of Ianis.

But he endured a frustrating time on international duty when he was subbed off for Romania against Northern Ireland and was an unused sub for his country's second Nations League game against Austria.

"In our recent games, I took him off against Northern Ireland because he had been booked and the fourth official looked at me after he had made another tackle.

That led to criticism in his homeland, but Radoi has now jumped to the defence of Hagi, who is set to line up for Rangers tonight in the Europa League against Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar.

"Let me tell the fans that I have total confidence in Ianis.

And he's urged fans not to compare him with his famous dad Gheorghe.
