Is it time for Rangers to recall Glenn Middleton to the first team?

If you had told Glenn Middleton at the start of the season that he would play 27 first team games for Rangers then he'd have bitten your hand off.

He made it off the bench in the 3-1 Scottish Cup win over Cowdenbeath and in the 0-0 draw with St Johnstone in the league.

At such a young age, it's vital to protect Middleton and Gerrard knows all about that himself having broken into the Liverpool team at a similar age to the 19-year-old.

Middleton was back on the bench for the 3-0 win over Motherwell in Rangers' last game but never made it onto the pitch with Ross McCrorie, Andy Halliday and Eros Grezda the trio sent on by Steven Gerrard.

Middleton has been in sensational form for Graeme Murty's reserve team recently and grabbed a double against Celtic in the 2-0 win on Monday.

There's little chance he'll be sold this summer and he'll likely be given another opportunity to start afresh next season but there's an argument that Middleton is a better option for the rest of this campaign.

Middleton has been lining out for the reserves as they look to win the league but is it time Gerrard promoted him back to the top team?
