Rangers are set to reignite their interest in Millwall stopper Jake Cooper, according to reports.

The 23-year-old was a summer target for Steven Gerrard and Rangers had a bid of around £3m rejected as the Londoners put their foot down.

However, according to the Express , Rangers chief scout Andy Scoulding was dispatched to the New Den last month to cast an eye over the defender and saw him score a late equaliser in the draw with Bolton.

Cooper has 18 months left on his contract at Millwall.

But it's suggested the Championship side have a cut-price release clause in his contract should the Lions be relegated from the second tier.

Should that be the case they face a dilemma in January as to whether to cash in on the player they valued at more than £3m just a few months ago.

Gerrard remains a fan of the England U20 international and is said to be prepared to wait.
