Marcus Rashford has been lauded as 'more than just a footballer' amid his efforts to pressure the government into reversing their decision over the food voucher scheme.

The Manchester United striker's first coach, Dave Horrocks, helped nurture Rashford's talent as a youngster at Fletcher Moss Rangers and spoke with immense pride at his former player's activism.

Rashford has written an open letter to MPS, urging them to make a U-turn on the decision to stop providing meals to help low-income families during the school summer holidays.

Rashford raised £20m for charity when partnering with FareShare and continues to ramp up pressure on the government.

In his letter to MPs, Rashford wrote: 'The government has taken a "Whatever it takes" approach to the economy - I'm asking you today to extend that same thinking to protecting all vulnerable children across England.

Rashford wrote: 'Wow, just got home from training and I'm blown away with the support.

Manchester United take on Tottenham on Friday in their first game back since the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
