Celtic new boy Moritz Bauer has praised Jordan Jones for making a heartfelt apology following his horror tackle in the Old Firm derby.

The Austrian admits he actually ended up feeling sorry for the Rangers star after Jones crocked himself in the challenge.

“I’ve made bad tackles during my career – although I’ve never been sent off – and I was surprised when I saw the red card for Jordan because it hadn’t hurt that much at the time.

“I don’t believe there are too many red-card tackles where players deliberately go in to hurt the other guy.”

Bauer was scythed down in the dying minutes of Celtic’s 2-0 win at Ibrox but insists the Northern Ireland wide-man didn’t deserve a straight red.

Jones now faces a month on the sidelines nursing a knee problem.

“I was lucky I wasn’t injured by his challenge – I knew at the time it was a badly-timed tackle but I don’t believe it was anything personal, even though it looked really bad on TV and social media.
