Liverpool edged out Rangers as Steven Gerrard pulled on a blue shirt for the first time.

Former stars of both teams played in the legends clash at Ibrox as all five goals arrived in the first half.

Patrik Berger then doubled the visitor's lead, before Boyd made amends for his spot kick moments later to make it 2-1.

Gerrard started for the visitors, before making a cameo appearance for Rangers but was unable to get on the scoresheet.

The Reds were unlucky not to extend their lead with Alexander pulling off a string of good saves as Liverpool ran out 3-2 winners.

Liverpool opened the scoring as Luis Garcia nodded past keeper Neil Alexander, almost immediately after Kris Boyd missed a penalty for the hosts.

Liverpool led 3-2 at the interval and it would stay that way at the end of 90 minutes, but not for lack of trying.
