Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has blasted Kilmarnock’s hatchet men tactics and claimed his side were close to putting in a fine performance.

"There was one team trying to play football, trying to create and doing all the right things.

We’ve had a lot of crosses and set-pieces – we’ve tried everything we can to win the game.

The Ibrox men could only draw 1-1 against Steve Clarke’s team, with Alfredo Morelos’ equaliser ensuring there wasn’t yet more misery for the majority of the 50,000 crowd.

"But the performance wasn’t far away from being OK and good enough to win the game.

It was another dire display from Rangers and a Celtic win on Sunday will put the Hoops 10 points clear at the top of the table.

But Gerrard refused to hammer his side and claimed they nearly delivered.
