Steven Gerrard admits he regrets failing to land a creative midfielder in January and promised that Rangers' next batch of signings will take the club to the next level.

Gerrard has vowed to stick around and rebuild his team for next season despite last week's Scottish Cup exit to Aberdeen.

Gerrard said: 'There are two ways to analyse it.

'We're a lot closer than people think but the next four, five, six signings are going to take us to the next level, to be better in the cups, better in Europe, and be closer in the league.

Gerrard had coveted a No 10 in the January window but, although midfielders Glen Kamara and Steven Davis were secured, the team's lack of creativity was exposed against a Dons team superbly organised by manager Derek McInnes.

In concert with director of football Mark Allen, Gerrard has recruited 18 players since taking over at Ibrox last summer and admits his strike rate has been far from perfect.

'I'll do everything in my power to make the XI stronger and more competitive next year.
