Steven Gerrard has taken a thinly-veiled dig at Scotland boss Steve Clarke over an injury to Ryan Jack that threatens to rule the midfielder out of Saturday's clash with Livingston.

Jack was sent back to Rangers early from the national squad ahead of Monday's defeat to Belgium, as he struggled with a knee injury.

Gerrard said: "Ryan Jack is a doubt for the weekend, unfortunately.

And Gerrard admits the wait for his marquee signing was worth it.

Meanwhile, Gerrard admits he kept the No.14 slot in his Rangers squad open for Ryan Kent because he never gave up hope he'd land his number one summer target.

"Joe Aribo is in the right place, trust me."

Now Gerrard has pointed the finger at the Scotland coaching set-up - accusing them of making Jack carry out "an 11K session" just days after the exhausting derby defeat to Celtic.
