That's according to former Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch.

The Light Blues end their first season under Gerrard this Sunday away at Kilmarnock after claiming another Old Firm victory against Glasgow rivals Celtic last weekend.

While the Gers look set to end their season on a high, Celtic are primed to complete another sweep of domestic silverware having added an eighth Scottish Premiership title to their Scottish League Cup triumph last month.

Despite their recent domination, McCulloch thinks Rangers have improved significantly under Gerrard to the point that they can really test Celtic's 10-in-a-row ambitions in 2019-20.

Crucial to doing so, he suggests, could be on-loan forward Kent having been named PFA Scotland's Young Player of the Year for supplying six goals and six assists in 23 league games this season.

"McCulloch, writing in his Evening Times column, declared:"Rangers have now what Celtic have had for the last three or four years and that is a bit of continuity in the squad. "This summer, it is Celtic that are looking at the bigger overhaul rather than Rangers, who have had to do it season after season for the a while now."

"Rangers have got a good core of a squad and a team in place now and the manager has already added to that by doing deals for Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie. So there will be competition for places in the wider areas and if Rangers could keep hold of Ryan Kent, you can't write them off."
