Ahead of their clash with Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday, Chris Sutton has launched into a stunning rant surrounding the former England captain.

Sutton has claimed that Rangers hero Walter Smith wouldn't have let the players get away with a performance like the one Gerrard's side produced in their 2-0 loss on Tuesday.

"Steven Gerrard said he came to Glasgow to win trophies and following their replay defeat that isn't going to happen unless Celtic collapse in the league," Sutton told the Daily Record.

"My team, my responsibility, said Gerrard after the humiliation against Aberdeen."

Sutton, who won four league titles during his time in Scotland, believes that the way Gerrard dealt with the defeat was a mistake, and that the former Liverpool skipper should've confronted the players.

Gerrard joined Rangers in June and yesterday made a promise to the Ibrox faithful that he will become a better manager as time progresses.

"I've picked myself back up and I can guarantee you that I will improve personally moving forward," Gerrard said ahead of the Kilmarnock clash.
