Rangers rule out reported move for controversial forward as media gets it wrong again

Rangers appear to have ruled out a potential return – in any form – for Florian Kamberi of Hibernian after reports emerged at the weekend that they had agreed an extension to his initial loan deal, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Daily Record and Sunday Post reported on Sunday that Kamberi was set to begin pre-season training with Steven Gerrard’s side with his status as a member of the 2019/20 Europa League squad allowing for an extension to his contract – interestingly, both articles have subsequently been removed from the respective websites.

The Sun have been told by sources from within Ibrox that they have held no talks at all with the Hibees and the Swiss-born attacker might have to face the music following his controversial comments when he arrived in Glasgow in January.

Hibs are rumoured to be looking for around the original fee they paid Grasshoppers for Kamberi – believed to be in the region of £150,000 – but, despite making an impression as an impact player, Gerrard obviously has other targets lined up and will prioritise strengthening the first XI for the coming season.

With the original articles being removed, it shows, once again, that Rangers are keeping their transfer cards very close to their chest having kept the mainstream media in Scotland in the dark prior to the announcements of both Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin.

Gerrard will continue to be linked with a host of names before football kicks off again but a deal for Kamberi seems to be ruled out – for now, at least.
