Rangers should have a think about trying to sign midfield prospect Lewis Ferguson from Aberdeen before the Dons tie him down to a new lucrative contract.

Son of former Rangers star Derek Ferguson and nephew of club legend Barry, Lewis has emerged as one of the top talents in the Scottish Premiership this season, making 22 appearances for the Dons.

His excellent form has put him in line to be rewarded with a bumper new contract, which if he signs will likely make his situation at Pittodrie a lot firmer, to Rangers’ detriment.

As quoted by The Daily Record, Dons boss Derek McInnes said of his situation: “I’ve spoken to Lewis’ agent and told him we’ll get together about recognition.

The intention is for him to be our player for the next two or three years at least.” Making our move for the player now could throw Aberdeen’s long-term plans to hold onto him into chaos and allow us to snap up a quality young prospect.

Rangers supporters no all too well what kind of talent he holds considering he scored the winner against the Gers in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup back in October.

That’s one of five goals and four assists this season that demonstrate he could have the ability to make an impact at Ibrox just like his close family members.
