Davis was reportedly due to sign an 18-month contract after agreeing to take a considerable pay cut on his salary at current club Southampton.

He has set his sights on ending an eight-year wait for Rangers to win silverware and adding to his eight winners medals from his first spell at the club.

"With the Gers second in the Premiership on goal difference after their Old Firm derby win before the winter break, the Northern Ireland captain said:"I am a better player than the one that left Rangers.

"The first trophy for any new side is always massive, it was the same when he won our first under Walter Smith during my first spell here."

Know it's been a while since the club won a major trophy.

"Davis added:"It would be nice to come back and help the club achieve that, but it's not just me, we are all here working hard to do that.

"The demands at this club are huge and that's what makes it so different."
