Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie has tested positive for coronavirus as confirmed by Portsmouth’s Twitter feed last night.

McCrorie is the fifth player at the south coast club to test positive for the virus, thankfully, the club confirmed that they have all displayed mild or no symptoms.

The defensive midfielder has played a lot of his football this season at right-back and his athleticism mixed with his natural reading of the game and physicality could yet see him return to Rangers in his third different position since making his breakthrough as a centre-half.

Fans of the Ibrox side will be wishing McCrorie well as he recovers from the virus that has put a halt to football across the globe and is having such a devastating effect on life in the UK.

Rangers fans could do well to cast an eye across the city when observing their Old Firm rivals’ treatment of youngsters with the likes of Ryan Christie and James Forrest all taking a few seasons to find their feet and saving them a fortune in the process.

There have been games where his competitive style of play has been sorely missed, especially in 2020, in games when the Gers have surrendered a lead, he may not have the passing range or an ability on the ball similar to that of Steven Davis or Glen Kamara but his battling qualities would have undoubtedly saved points.

With Jon Flanagan, Andy Halliday and Matt Polster all failing to impress, McCrorie could return to the first-team squad next season where his versatility could prove to be useful in a number of different positions.
