Dominic Solanke will be Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s number one transfer priority in January, but faces competition from two English Premier League club for his services, according to The Express.

The paper say that the Ibrox boss is desperate to add serious competition for Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty to the squad and while he’s looking at other positions in the squad too, Solanke leads the list of short-term targets.

Standing in the way though are top-flight sides Huddersfield and Wolves, also interested in signing the out-of-favour Liverpool man next month.

That’s a significant barrier for a club even as big as Rangers, with the lure of regular Premier League football likely to interest the young English prospect more than anything we can offer him.

The only thing that might convince the striker to head north is the opportunity to work under Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, who could give the player the boost he needs to return and make an impact at Anfield.

Anything is possible when arranging a loan deal and hopefully we also have the carrot of European football in the new year to offer.

Perhaps the most important thing is getting a decision on Solanke’s future early in the month either way, giving us enough time to sort out a replacement if he doesn’t fancy a short-term stay in Glasgow.
