A GROUP of Rangers Under-18’s have travelled to Portugal today to begin a 12-day training camp.

Speaking ahead of the trip, under-18’s head coach David McCallum said: “It’s an Erasmus funded programme that we go away for a 12-day training camp.

We have obviously got Umaro Balde who will help us along hopefully in those days as well.” McCallum believes the trip will be a good experience for the squad, and maybe a test for some players.

“They are away from home they are living a life that’s a bit different so some of the lads that are from this area it is just normal for them so it will be good to see how they cope with that for what is just obviously 12 days but it is different.”

“Hopefully we will get another game as well in there and we will look to try and visit some areas and do some cultural visits so it will be an experience for the lads that is beyond football.

“We look to go and experience football and living in another country and see what that entails and try and speak a little bit of the local language.

“It is giving that life experience away from just coming to training every day, doing their work and going home so you look at lads that we have got here like Umaro Balde, Kristof Hampl, Julian Anderson and the Nothern Ireland the ones who have come here.
