Wealthy Qatar club Al-Duhail are exploring a move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

The leaders of the Qatar Stars League have already snapped up the former Juventus trio of Mario Mandzukic, Mehdi Benatia and Han Kwang-song.

Now Sportsmail understands the Middle East club have engaged a third party to make enquiries over the availability of Morelos.

Rangers' top scorer with 29 goals last season, the 23-year-old Colombian international is under contract until 2023, with the Ibrox club seeking a fee in excess of £15million.

Despite the lucrative terms on offer for moving to the oil-rich Gulf, Morelos spoke last week of his contentment with life in Glasgow and said that he wants to hold out for a move to one of the bigger leagues in Europe.

Rangers have previously turned down approaches from Bordeaux and Dynamo Kiev. However, as well as scouring the market for a striker, Al-Duhail have also been linked with Manchester City veteran David Silva and Moroccan international Khalid Boutaib in recent days.

Despite the economic impact of Covid-19, Qatari clubs are snapping up players from European clubs in a quest to boost the country's domestic game ahead of hosting the World Cup finals in two years' time.
